The fresh, homemade and local Jamaican food prepared at Strawberry Fields Together in Robin’s Bay isn’t just healthy and sustainable, but also delicious. Every day, fresh fish and produce are brought to the community, which goes directly into the making of their food. Above is some fresh fruit, usually eaten for breakfast. In the video below, we ask Chef Jessent some questions about her experiences while she prepares steamed fish and fried chicken. All of the food is organic, sustainable, and local. Another local favorite which Jessent cooks here is Jamaica’s national dish, ackee with saltfish. Ackee is Jamaica’s national fruit, but can be deadly. If forced open before it is ready, it releases a poisonous gas. But, if you allow it to open on its own, it is perfectly edible when ready, and tastes like vegan scrambled eggs!
