Trap x Art: a place of dance, art, and music in a club setting where artists can network and showcase their work for free. What more could you want? Amina and Jesse Brooks started Trapxart in Oakland in 2013, and it’s taken off, with shows in many cities in the U.S. and Canada. Walk in, and you’re welcomed into a world of confident, strong body paint models and artists of all mediums. Dance the night away and sample some (green) baked goods, chat with artists about their paintings, clothes, handmade jewelry and accessories, plastic face masks (and much more), and meet people freed by their love of social justice and creation.
Trap x Art, without forcefully doing so, promotes inclusion in its best sense: anyone can be who they want in this space. People of all colors, nationalities, genders, sexualities. Everyone is welcome here, and freedom of bodily expression is encouraged. The theme of female body positivity and appreciation is greatly needed, in a world in which women are taught to be insecure and afraid of being too bold, beautiful, and confident.
Are you an artist looking to showcase your work, looking to meet dope people, or just can get behind freedom for everyone? Check out the next Trap x Art event 12/21 in San Francisco. 🙂
