Are you comfortable in your own skin? Do you love yourself and everything about you?
Most often we are not satisfied with what we have. We have been conditioned for many years by our family, friends, culture, and society to live up to an impossible standard. There are beauty standards set by family, advertisers, magazines, TV, fashion industry and others to look a certain way. There are thin models in the magazines and fashion runways, skinny Barbie dolls, skinny actors that have major roles on TV or movies where the ‘chubbier’ actors gets supporting roles. There are skin whitening creams, slimming products, and plastic surgery options to change your looks. There many other advertisement messages and items that suggest that you need their product/service because you are not beautiful enough.
Due to pushback by people, there have been improvements in these area where we now have natural people of all sizes be on TV, cinema, in the fashion industry, in magazines, media representing natural beauty. Even toy industries now are producing multi-cultural and normal sized dolls for the kids.
In this article below, Dove’s attempt to sell beauty backfired when sending a message that you will be white after using the product.
Being beautiful and confident just the way you are should be the message everyone sees in society. If you stop comparing yourself, then you will accept yourself and be comfortable in your own skin. Your intelligence, kindness, caring heart and other personality traits defines your beauty, not just your appearance.
